Spain: With over 130 years of history, COMSA Corporación is a specialist in turnkey railway projects covering the fields of construction, installations and systems, and maintenance of high speed, tramways, metropolitan and regional railways. Regarding high-speed rail, it has participated in the development of all Spanish lines. In this context, the group is carrying out the remodelling and extension of Chamartín station, which includes the construction of four additional tracks for high speed, as well as the construction of La Sagrera station in Barcelona and sector 3 of the Mondragón-Elorrio-Bergara branch line corresponding to the Basque Y, in addition to the maintenance of different sections of the Madrid-Sevilla and Madrid-Valencia high speed lines. Within the framework of the development of the Mediterranean Corridor, COMSA is implementing standard gauge on the Martorell - Sant Vicenç de Calders section.
Its engineering business has also developed the construction project of the overhead contact line installations and associated systems for the section between Plasencia and Bifurcación Peñas Blancas on the Madrid-Extremadura high-speed line and the overhead contact line for La Robla - Campomanes section of the León - Asturias high-speed line. The group has also executed the complete renovation of the catenary between Maçanet and Caldes de Malavella, and the maintenance of the overhead contact line, substations, stations, and associated systems of FGV in Alicante.
Regarding its actions on conventional lines, it has begun the construction of the new railway access to T1 at Barcelona-El Prat Airport and continues to carry out the remodelling of the Pobla Larga-Silla spur of the Valencia Cercanías line and the renewal of the rail tracks in the Perthus tunnel on the Figueres - Perpignan line, among other projects.
In the underground sector, COMSA Corporación has continued the construction of the Altza-Galtzaraborda section of the Donostia Metro (Guipúzcoa) and has resumed works on the central section of Line 9 of the Barcelona Metro. It also continues to develop contracts for the refurbishment and adaptation of infrastructures, electrical installations, and systems in the underground systems of Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Sevilla and Málaga. Here highlights the completion of the section between the Amado Granell ramp and Nazaret on Line 10 of Metrovalencia.
On the other hand, its concessions area continues with the operation of the Málaga Metro, which recorded 6.7 million passengers in 2022, and the Barcelona Tram.
Europe: Endorsed by its high specialisation and its centenary experience, COMSA Corporación has chosen markets with high opportunities for the development of new infrastructures and the modernisation of existing ones. In this regard, it has put into service the tramway in the city of Odense (Denmark) and continues the remodelling and electrification of the railway between the provinces of Vinkovci and Vukovar (Croatia).
In Portugal, COMSA and its subsidiary in the Portuguese country FERGRUPO continue to make progress on the renovation of the Beira Alta line, Pampilhosa - Santa Comba Dão section, and the construction of the Mealhada bypass, both of which are part of the Northern International Corridor. The contract for the modernisation of the track and catenary on the Cascais line and the electrification of the Algarve railway line have also been awarded.
America: During the past year, COMSA Corporación also strengthened its railway business in Latin America. In 2022, the company expanded its contract portfolio in Mexico with the award of the track renewal works for the Ferrocarril Istmo de Tehuantepec (FIT) railway through Oaxaca, among other projects. In Brazil, it brought into service the extension of the second phase of line 4 of the São Paulo Metro.

Innovations |
In 2022 COMSA Corporación invested more than 8.5 million euros in R&D&I activities. Among the most outstanding projects in which the group is participating is 5GMed, where COMSA is part of the consortium of companies that is carrying out the deployment of 5G technology to guarantee the connectivity of the Spanish and southern French rail network. It is also worth mentioning its presence in the Safe4RAIL-3 programme, which is working on the development of technologies and devices for the next generation of the Train Control and Monitoring System (TCMS).
Finally, as a member of the European Smart Green Rail (eSGR) consortium, the company participates in 4 of the 6 projects funded by the first call published by Europe's Rail Joint Undertaking, an EU initiative that succeeds Shift2Rail and of which it is a founding partner. These projects are R2DATO, IAM4RAIL, Rail4EARTH and FutuRe.
